It would appear San Francisco is not the only bay area city off pace in hotel development. The San Francisco Business Times has reported that Oakland is lagging behind, the demand created by its recent growth in dining, art and retail industries. With only a single hotel entitled for Jack London Square, and zero under construction, Oakland is encouraging development, especially in its Uptown neighborhood where they hope to attract a younger crowd.
