Pop-Up Bike Parking Design Wins Competition in Yerba Buena

The Winning Entry, "Pedalution," by a team from the Academy of Art University
The future of bike parking is now and it's coming to you (almost) live from the Yerba Buena neighborhood of San Francisco. This morning, the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District (YBCBD) and SF Planning Department announced the winner of their student competition to design a portable bike corral to use at the many special events that occur in the arts-laden neighborhood. Out of 35 registered teams from around the world from Iran to Slovenia, a local team from the Academy of Art is taking home the small cash prize and the opportunity to work with an SF-based fabricator to build prototypes and test its 'Pedalution' corral.

Each collapsible, aluminum "Pedalution" will cost a mere $3500 to fabricate and is placed on caster wheels, making it easy for one or two people to move. All the entries will be on view at SPUR starting tomorrow and continuing through the end of May. - Laura Tepper
