The infrastructure overhaul transforming the seismically-unsound Doyle Drive into the "Presidio Parkway" will provide more for the visiting public than a safer and prettier-sounding approach to the Golden Gate Bridge. A new pair of new tunnels—a key element of the upgrade—will support a massive land bridge that connects the Main Post of the Presidio to mid-Crissy Field, restoring 10 acres of parkland and expanded wetlands in the process. A handful of teams will be invited to submit detailed proposals following the discussion of 16 preliminary concepts at a public meeting on Tuesday. -Laura Tepper [SF Examiner/photo via Octoferret]
