[Photos via Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation] Last week, the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation hosted a grand opening celebration for the Kelly Cullen Community, located at the former Central YMCA building. Attendees of the ceremony included Mayor Ed Lee and Supervisor Jane Kim, who presented the TNDC with a commemorative plaque. Located at 220 Golden Gate Ave in the Tenderloin, the $95 million, 127,000 sq.ft. residential building will provide homes and support for 172 formerly homeless persons in the form of efficiency studios. Features of the remodeled original 1910 building include a restored atrium/auditorium on the second floor, a remolded gymnasium on the fifth floor, 13,000 commercial sq. ft. and a Department of Public Health clinic on the ground floor. The clinic has been designed to meet LEED Gold standards, with the application for certification pending. - Michael Conrad
