SAN FRANCISCO—Two Eater maps got quarterly updates this week, starting with the Eater 38, our flagship answer to the question "Can you recommend a restaurant...?"

SAN FRANCISCO—Also updated: the Eater Cocktail Heatmap, with six great new bars and restaurant bar programs to try.

MARINA—A16's hostess Penelope Grill gave us the dirt on being a Gatekeeper at the popular spot—and what to do when a famous customer requests a soda you don't serve.

SOMA—The mid-Market land grab is bringing some interesting potential expansions, including a second restaurant from Dominique Crenn and a fourth from the Absinthe Group, into play.

HAYES VALLEY—Bai Thong Thai's window sign encouraging patrons to boycott Yelp has gotten the restaurant national press. Sadly, it's far from the first claim of extortion by the review monolith.

FILLMORE/OAKLAND/BERKELEY—This week's slew of smaller openings includes a Berkeley beer garden and Indian restaurant/cocktail joint, an Oakland whole-animal lunch spot, and the first SF outlet from a NYC-based teriyaki chain.

NOB HILL—Wine-centric bistro Mason Pacific will fill the former Lalola Bar de Tapas space next month, with a deep reserve list from a private-equity honcho's personal collection.

NOE VALLEY—Also in plywood mode: the folks from La Ciccia, who hope to open a new wine bar and snack joint called La Nebbia down the street this summer.
