"Cultural and Innovation" on the Boards at the Presidio

Things are buzzing over at the Presidio with the deliberative process surrounding the design for the former Commissary site moving forward and initial planning for the National Center for Service & Innovative Leadership at Fort Winfield Scott underway. The team overseeing the transformation of Fort Scott kicked off their outreach process, introducing the public to the plans for the new campus. Meanwhile down the road, five teams out of 16 that submitted proposals for the new cultural center at and around Sports Basement have been invited to interview with the Presidio Trust. Now on the table (pdf alert/s!) are: a "Cultural Innovation Center" and Sustainability Institute from WRNS/Chora; the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy's commons (park), aerial walkway and visitor center; a center for "play" and "innovation" by Jane Clark Chermayeff & Associates; a center exploring migration, conservation, and sustainability by KV+Aassociates/Mark Cavagnero; and a populist art museum courtesy of man of the people, George Lucas. The pick of this litter, to be announced next month, will advance to the RFP phase and present the deets of their projects to the public in June. It seems that the new Presidio Parkway corridor is fixing to come alive with the sound of innovation, whatever that is. - Laura Tepper
