Supes Tackle Soft Story Seismic Rules

Tomorrow the Board of Supervisors will vote on the Mandatory Seismic Retrofit Program, which will apply to wood-frame buildings of three or more stories built before 1978 containing five or more dwelling units, as long as the building has not already been seismically strengthened. A few weeks ago the Supes' Land Use and Economic Development Committee approved the legislation, and the Planning Commission heard all about it last week. Folks have been concerned about the cost to building owners and if landlord will pass the cost onto their tenants. [SF BOS/previously on Curbed SF]
