Despite ongoing debate on the fairness and expense of such a law, the Examiner reports that on Monday, "the Board of Supervisors Land Use and Economic Development Committee approved legislation that would require buildings that sustain damage during smaller-sized earthquakes to make seismic improvements." Let's all hope the big one holds off until these improvements are made. In the meantime, landlords and tenant advocate groups are not thrilled, the former for the cluster f--k and potential expense, and the latter for the provision in the law that could "allow landlords to pass through 100 percent of the retrofitting costs to tenants under existing rental laws for capital improvements."
