South Bay's Villa Lauriston Going to Auction

Commissioned in the 1920s by original Fairmont Hotel owner Herbert Edwards Law, this palatial estate shall soon be the domain of the highest bidder. Dubbed "Villa Lauriston," 5050 Alpine Road is a Portola Valley mansion of epic proportion: Over 16,000 square feet of Florentine splendor, 20 rooms total of which seven are bedrooms and six baths. The rest are sumptuous libraries, conservatories, sitting rooms, dining rooms (etc., etc.). Outside, on 28.4 park-like acres, find tennis court, pool, gardens, vineyard, and, according to the listing "a natural waterfall." Visitors deemed unworthy of one of the seven beds inside can enjoy their own guest house built over the six car garage. Per property records, the home sold for a mere $1,000,099 in 1995. Over subsequent years, it enjoyed several trips to the MLS, listing and delisting without ever changing hands. At one point, it asked $20 million, though its last listed price was $15,880,000. Now luxury buyers have missed their chance for an easy, traditional transaction because Villa Lauriston is going to auction on April 21, with a starting bid of $8,880,000.
