This week the San Francisco Superior Court dismissed the lawsuit over converting the Beach Chalet Soccer Fields to artificial turf. The battle has been brewing for a few years now, with the project (which also includes new stadium seating and 60' light poles) approved by all the necessary city agencies. But a group comprised of parents and environmentalists have been trying to fight the proposed use of artificial turf, citing health concerns and lack of adequate environmental review. The Superior Court was seen as the last chance to try to stop the project, but despite the dismissal opponents plan on appealing the decision. Nonetheless, the Rec and Parks plan to begin the $14M renovation next year, with the fields set to reopen in 2015.
