Urban School Taking Over Oak Street Parking Lots

New, 5 comments

The popular Urban School of San Francisco has leased land from adjacent St Agnes Parish and plans to completely transform what are currently two unsightly surface parking lots in to a brand new extension of its campus. The proposal includes new classrooms, a full-sized high school gymnasium and flexible performing arts space, all housed in a glassy new building on Oak. Though featured prominently on the school's project fact sheet, the rendering shown above is only preliminary, and approvals have yet to be obtained. One potential drama-inducer related to the proposal is the fact that it requires moving a historic home that sits between the two parking lots. Nevertheless, school officials appear confident that all necessary permits will come through in no time, citing a 2016 completion date for the project.
