Planning Commission Talks Beefing Up City's Water Supply

New, 1 comment

After this past summer's Rim Fire threatened the Hetch Hetchy and San Francsico's water supply, the issue of water access has been front and center. Tomorrow the Planning Commission will vote on the Public Utilities Commission's new Groundwater Supply Project, which would tap into existing groundwater sources to augment San Francisco's municipal water supply. The locations of the new well facilities are all on the west side, with three in Golden Gate Park, two in the Sunset, and one at Lake Merced. The Planning Commission will vote on certification of the EIR and amending the General Plan, but there was lots of push back from the public about potential cross contamination and locating the well facilities near the Murphy Windmill.
