What's Planned for the Site at 651 Geary Street?

From the Curbed inbox:

I was hoping someone at Curbed SF could answer the question of what is going to be built at 651-655 Geary St, near Leavenworth. The old structure, which had some squatter problems, has been torn down. The whole corner (with Redwood and Trocadero Club) is getting better so I hope to hear good news. The project planned for this site has been in the works since 2002 and was finally approved back in 2004. For a long time the existing building sat vacant, a favorite for squatters and drug users, last officially used as the Career Resources Development Center. A new project would have constructed a 13-story mixed-use building with 41 units, 1,500 sq.ft. of ground-floor retail, 16,467 sq.ft of office, and no off-street parking. The approval had a condition that construction had to start within three years, which obviously didn't happen. The property changed hands a few times, and now the new owner wants to start up the process again. They're starting up the environmental review process again, but already had a permit to demo the existing building, so down it went. We'll keep you posted as new plans emerge.
