One corner of Potrero Hill is about to get some special recognition, as a portion of the Carolina Street stairway at Carolina and 20th streets will be renamed as "Jack Balestreri Way." Balestreri himself paid for and built the stairs alongside his home with his earnings from his concrete work on the Golden Gate Bridge, and when he died in 2012 at age 95, he was the last surviving workman from the bridge's original construction.
