Coliseum City Watch

The deadline for Oakland's Coliseum City plan is next summer, just before mayoral elections in November. Oakland's current mayor, Jean Quan, is hoping the timing of a blockbuster development deal would bolster her horrifically low 24 percent approval rating by creating up to three new stadiums for Oakland's major sporting teams as well as thousands of jobs. 6,000 new housing units and 14 million sq. ft. of industrial, commercial and retail space would be created, while at the same time redeveloping one of the city's most dangerous neighborhoods.
