Work on California's bullet train has finally begun in the Central Valley, but not everyone is happy about it. Valley farmers, businesses and locals alike "are worried that their tax dollars are being squandered" on the train line that is now estimated to cost $68 billion. Preliminary engineering work is ongoing as the state is settling two lawsuits over land acquisitions. Once they are settled construction is expected to commence on the initial 30 miles of track near Fresno. [SF Business Times]
