Complaints from local unions have lead the City to look into the hiring and payment practices of an America's Cup event production contractor. Instead of paying higher wages and hiring at least 20% local workers as required in the arduous agreements hammered out last year, union organizers are saying the event is being staffed by out-of-state and potentially nonunion laborers from Texas or Virginia. The Board of Supes will hold an upcoming hearing on the matter, and the Office of Labor Standards Enforcement will conduct a "labor standards review." Doesn't look like the issue is affecting the success of the race though - tickets to bleacher seating for the October America's Cup races sold out in just a few days.
