Looks like major radiation isn't the only woe for current Treasure Island residents - take the regular power outages, for example. According to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, there have been over 30 outages this year, averaging over 4 hours long. Ticking off residents even more is that often power to the housing portion of the island is sacrificed to restore the power to locations hosting special events. Even though the City pays for police and fire services, the Treasure Island Development Authority handles everything else (including power) and are struggling with a tiny budget. Sounds pretty tough to deal with, but apparently tenants are digging in their heels since those who were living there before July 15, 2011 are guaranteed a spot on the island at the same low rate when the new development is done.
