The Minnie and Lovie Ward Playfields will move forward as planned, as the Planning Commission rejected an appeal of the environmental review for the park's renovation last week. Opponents have argued that replacing the grass fields with synthetic turf can cause health problems, but the Planning Commission sided with Rec and Park's analysis that studies have found no particular problems with artificial turf. The renovations at the park in Ocean View are one of nine projects sponsored by the non-profit City Fields Foundation to provide more playing fields in city parks. [SF Gate; Curbed SF]
