CollegeTrack Opens New Center in Refurbished Bayview Building

Last night CollegeTrack celebrated the opening of their new center in a former abandoned building in the Bayview. The group runs an after-school program that helps students from underserved communities get into and graduate from college, and after a few super successful years, needed a larger location to serve more students. Built in 1927 as a machine shop, the industrial building was a former medical office and clinic, and has been refurbished into a 13,000 sq.ft. center that can serve 500 students from the neighborhood annually. CollegeTrack opened their first center in Bayview Hunters Point back in 2007, and this past May celebrated the graduation of its second class of college-bound students (including many that were the first in their families to graduate high school). Well-coiffed Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom was on hand for the opening, as well as Mayor Lee.
