The Board of Supervisors are trying to figure out how to interpret the new Coit Tower policies that limit private events at the site. Proposition B was supported by 53% of voters in June in response to concern over the murals after a candlelight fundraiser was held on the site. Sup. Avalos has asked the City's budget analyst to get a detailed description of expenditures and revenue at Coit Tower, and potentially make recommendations on how to interpret the policy, which prioritizes revenue earned there for its upkeep. Rec and Park isn't thrilled, saying any restraints on the parks budget could negatively affect other parks throughout the city, since Coit Tower revenue is used to subsidize other programs.
