Artist Leo Villareal has been trying to fund his project to brighten up the Bay Bridge's western span for two years by installing a light show that would have 25,000 LED lights flickering from its cables in sequences inspired by the ebbs and flows of the Bay. And yes, it's been approved by the California Department of Transportation. Organizers have raised 70 percent of the $8M needed for the project and is currently on the hunt for $2.5M to finish the deal. Villareal will begin installing his art piece this month with completion slated for March 2013. [SFGate]
