The Recreation and Park Department's operations committee recommended on Thursday that the agency enter a five-year contract with the nonprofit First Tee to manage operations at the nine-hole Golden Gate Park Golf Course. According to the Examiner, the contract could generate more than $400,000 annually for the City within five years, as First Tee would pay annual rent of $225,000 and Rec and Park would receive 100% of green fees above $350,000 (and a 50% cut if the fees top $500,000 annually). All revenue from the course would be funneled into Rec and Park's general fund. The full Recreation and Park Commission will vote on the new contract Sept. 20, and if approved, the Board of Supervisors also would have to vote sometime soon after. [SF Examiner/Photo: Zemistor]
