Stanley Saitowitz's 8 Octavia Finally Up For Approvals

Back when the Market-Octavia Plan was approved, 23 lots in Hayes Valley along the old freeway were designated for redevelopment. While a few projects have gone forward, one major corner lot at Market & Octavia remains vacant since the highway was removed in 2003. Tomorrow the Planning Commission will finally hear the Conditional Use Application for 8 Octavia, the Stanley Saitowitz/Natoma Architects design for the corner lot that's been in the works since 2007 when it won the San Francisco Prize Design competition for the parcel. The shiny boxes have been tweaked a little since then, and now comprise 8 stories with 49 units, ground floor retail, and 24 off-street residential parking spaces. So far the project is supported by SPUR, Housing Action Coalition, and Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association, so things are looking good. We'll let you know how it the hearing plays out.
