More than 30 new regulations designed to protect Coit Tower's Depression-era murals have been proposed by the city's Arts Commission and approved by the Recreation and Parks Department. The new rules are aimed at future concession contracts, and limit special events to the tower's observation deck and ban all food and drinks from the mural rooms. Visitors will have to carry their bags on the front of their body when they go past the murals, and no one (even volunteers) will be allowed inside the mural rooms unless accompanied by a park ranger or docent. The regulations will be part of a new concession agreement, which the Board of Supervisors will have the approval vote over. [SF Gate/Photo: Ed Bierman]
