Much to the dismay of our appeal-loving neighbors, now only an act by Congress can stop the federal grant for the Central Subway project now that the Obama administration has signed off on the $942 million application. It'll will cover 60% of the cost of the project. According to the Examiner, now Congress has 60 days to reject the application, but apparently that's never happened. Muni chief Ed Reiskin said the currently-in-recess Congress does not actively review the application, and if no action is taken within 60 days, it is approved. We'll hold our breath. [SF Examiner]
