San Jose Wants More Bike

"Our ambition is to retrofit a city that has been built for cars into one that is built for people,” says San Jose City Council Member Sam Liccardo, who bikes to work three days a week. The aim is to turn San Jose into the Bay Area's most bike-friendly city, integrated with other transit. Numbers are hard to come by, but the MTA says area commuters are often "multi-modal," meaning they take their bikes on Caltrains and then bike the rest of their route, with many using the Bay Trail. San Jose's 2040 gola is to be zoned into 70 connected villages, but for now it's buffered bike lanes and road diets. [StreetsblogSF/Photo Credit: Richard Masoner/Cycledelicious]
