It's Just Practical

If you live in the Portola area you might have noticed something a little strange happening on the slopes of SF Water's University Mound Reservoir. You see, 275 goats have been brought in to chomp away at the overgrown brush, as part of SF Water's award-winning Integrated Pest Management program. The Portola Planet sums up SF Water's reasoning quite well with this tidbit: "Instead of using a bunch of hired humans with gas powered machines to stumble awkwardly along the steep slopes, goats, who are much better designed at navigating the terrain, are deployed for a few days to clean up unwanted plant material."
