"The Department of Public Works has earmarked $42 million to repave the blocks between Van Ness and Steuart streets in 2016." The Chron's architecture critic takes a look at the Better Market Street proposals, the first steps in a "visioning process" to improve traffic and transit flow in a landscaped setting from Van Ness to The Embarcadero. Various solutions are presented, among them banning auto traffic altogether and the addition of dedicated, slightly elevated bike lanes– plus changes in the vintage streetcar stops to make them more accessible. Not surprisingly, no suggestions to eliminate bikes. [SFGate]
