Because people are the worst, SF Rec and Park reports that an estimated "hundreds of thousands of dollars in metal equipment" throughout the park system has been stolen by Bay Area metal thieves. What's worse than stealing from the Parks Department? Stealing from children. A good chunk of the metal is from local playgrounds. This is why we can't have nice things (like copper piping for an irrigation system). While the SFPD say they're on it, the Parks service currently only has the funds for two rangers to patrol all 4,000 acres of San Francisco's parks. [SFist]
