Yesterday Mayor Lee's office announced over $830K worth of community grants to make things pretty and more friendly all over town. Top winner was the Portola Neighborhood Steering Committee, raking in $65K for a street park on Burrows Street, and at second place The Women's Building got $55K to restore its multi-story Maestra Peace mural. No word on the actual amount awarded, but the Tenderloin is going to get an ecologically friendly (and presumably person-friendly) composting toilet. [SF Examiner]
