Hot on the heels of UNIQLO's announcement to open a store in Union Square we learn this morning that Japanese retailer MUJI will open its first west coast store in SoMa. More good news: It's slated to open in November of this year. MUJI SOMA will be located at in an old furniture store at 540 Ninth Street, across the street from the shopping complex that houses Nordstrom Rack and Bed Bath and Beyond. It will be the largest MUJI store in the country with 7,250 square feet of retail space. "MUJI aspires to modesty and plainness to adapt and shape itself to the styles, preferences, and practices of the individuals. We hope MUJI will be embraced by many people living in San Francisco Bay Area," said Hiroyoshi Azami, president of MUJI U.S.A. Limited. The store will offer over 2,000 items of MUJI products, including about 1,700 household items and 300 apparel items. UPDATE: MUJI's confirmed that the store will have limited parking adjacent to the building.
