Involving the Neighbors

At first glance, everyone in San Francisco seemed to want to welcome the Warriors basketball team and its plans to build a new arena into the city with open arms. Now that the team's committed to building a privately financed $500 million stadium on Piers 30-32, neighbors of the waterfront location are expressing concern over traffic, parking, crime and cleanliness issues. Supervisor Jane Kim—whose district includes the site—introduced legislation this week to set up a Citizens Advisory Committee to weigh in on the project. The 15-member committee will include nearby residents and business owners, as well as experts on housing, open space, youth, workforce development and a slew of other topics. [SF Examiner]
