In the great American circus tradition, the America's Cup Express rolled into town yesterday on a 121-car freight train almost 1.5 miles long. No elephants (or clowns) arrived at Pier 80, just boats and gear for the final race of the America's Cup World Series, which will take place on our waters starting August 21. Freight originated in Newport, RI, where the penultimate race played out earlier this month, and Pier 80 hasn't been a rail cargo destination for at least a decade– nice to hear the old girl still has her tracks.
