Well, That's Settled

"The deal bringing the CityPlace development on Mid-Market back from the dead has officially closed." One more piece of the Mid-Market jigsaw puzzle has fallen into place as private equity firms closed a deal this week to purchase the site and development rights for a 250K-sq-ft retail center. Once planned to be the centerpiece of the neighborhood's revival, CityPlace was fraught with disagreements over planning issues and parking and then wound up a casualty of the economy. Meanwhile, the actual "centerpiece" would turn out to be the Twitter Tax Break. Renamed Market Street Place but going ahead as designed, it's a great location for public transit, has 200 parking spaces, and will soon have a vastly increased population working and living within a few blocks. Sadly, no J.C. Penney. [SFGate]
