"How can civic leaders balance a desire for contemporary sustainable architecture in the historic South of Market neighborhood?" The Center for Architecture & Design, AIA SF, and GOOD have put their heads together to answer that very question tomorrow evening with a presentation by architect Renée Chow looking at the reinvention of SOMA. Chow is a dean and professor and co-chair of the Urban Design Program at UC Berkeley. GOOD is the design/culture blog/magazine we should all be reading on a regular basis. Be there- it's a rare joint session of the Planning and Historic Preservation Commissions, a juncture where "contemporary" and "historic" don't always meet. Thursday, July 20 at 5:00PM City Hall.
