Living Small, Luxury Edition

Another look at living in small spaces, and at $999,000, currently the most expensive 1-bed, 1.5-bath house on the market in San Francisco, 368 Vallejo Street was designed by architect Nilus de Matran, renovating a tiny 1906 structure on Telegraph Hill. The luxe pied-à-terre has a bedroom and bath downstairs, and a long living space up, starting with a study/office up front and working back to a kitchen that opens to a small deck. It doesn't look like there's much 1906 left, and at about 900-square-feet, it packs a lot of expensive details in a tight space. For those worrying where the TV is, there's a ceiling mounted projector, putting the media of your choice on the wall over the stairwell. The owners made some interesting decisions– the bath is big and luxurious and there's lots of closet space, but not much room in the otherwise small sleeping area. The skylit dining area's big enough to hold 6 to 8 people dinner next to kitchen with full-sized appliances and plenty of storage. One of De Matran's high-style renovations is also on the market in Ashbury Heights. [Update: We erred. While Nilus de Matran was the architect for the original project, Chris Wendel & John Holey were the architects for the house in its current form– our thanks to a friend at Dwell for pointing this out.]
