Although they won't confirm until leases actually have signatures, it looks like J.C.Penney will open a store in the 900 block of Market Street in the long-planned but recently-troubled retail complex. Most of the SF Business Journal's report is hidden behind a subscription, but Carlyle Group and Cypress Equities are in contract to purchase the foreclosed CityPlace site for a reported $20M. Although no timetable is available yet, this should perk things up between 5th & 6th Streets. Parking has already been argued over and permissions are in place for a Gensler-designed, 260K-square-foot project. [SF Business Journal/Curbed SF
