Gavin Newsom and wife Jennifer Siebel were its most famous occupants, and now their bit of Tuscany at the top of Masonic Avenue in Ashbury Heights is back on the market, less than a year after the new parents (and new Lieutenant Governor) sold it to move to Marin County. The 4-bed, 3.5-bath house came back yesterday asking $2,895,000, or about 5% over the sale price eleven months ago. Decorator Candace Barnes bought it 2005-ish and in a project that seemed to take centuries, transformed the c.1915 house into the stucco villa we see today. Actually it was always stucco, but she gave it new bronze windows, new landscaping and interiors, and a black kitchen that may or may not be an acquired taste. The current staging's not quite up to her standards when Barnes sold it in 2009 to the Newsoms, who repurposed the old listing photos. You can check it our for yourself, however. 1581 Masonic Avenue is open tomorrow, Thursday from 5:30PM to 7:00PM, and again both Saturday and Sunday from 2:00pm to 4:00PM.
