Why Can't Have Anything Nice?

New, 2 comments

This year, more than 1,400 vandalism-related incidents have been attended to, costing the city more than $156,000. And that includes the new $3.5M Dolores Park playground, vandalized within days of its opening with graffiti, tags and sadly, the theft of giant piano keys from the kiddie "music garden" thus making it very hard to play "Chopsticks." Neighbors are predictably outraged and vowing to fight back. Meanwhile, Rec & Parks sprawling 220-park, 178-playground, 25-recreation center and 9-swimming pool empire has been similarly afflicted for decades, with the commission on the hook for $1.8M worth of repairs in just the past five years.
