A.P. Giannini's c.1908 Bank of Italy building at 550 Montgomery will become a private club called Wingtips. Now it's better known as the Bank of America, but when Giannini re-built after the earthquake, the marble and bronze interiors were designed to be solid and reassuring. Not much on the club details, but with a name like Wingtips there's got to be a shoeshine. Along with a slide show, Mark Calvey reminds us of Giannini's other monuments worth aspiring to— like financing the Golden Gate Bridge and Walt Disney's Snow White when no one else would.
