Bless this Mess

After residents complained about overflowing public trash bins all over the City, the Chron sent out a team to random hotspots to see if there was evidence to support the claim. They found that yeah, the city is littered with litter. At the 16th Street Mission BART Station, the team found four filled trash bags placed alongside an overflowing can. Public Works is in charge of the trash cans, and say they remove the trash regularly, sometimes twice a day. Instead, they say the problem is misuse of the trash cans, which can lead to a $300 fine if the dumper is caught. "People don't leave the evidence," said Mohammed Nuru, director of San Francisco's Department of Public Works. "If somebody leaves a microwave, you can't figure out who left it."
