Ins and Outs

Vivian Day will be out as the head of San Francisco's Building Inspection Department this week, but she'll keep her $206,000-a-year salary. Day, feeling immense pressure from the mayor's office to step down, will likely take a new special assistant job within the department. Building Inspection Commission member Debra Walker said Day has been "incredibly effective in running the department" and was push out for insisting on strong code enforcement, particularly in Chinatown and the Tenderloin.
