Re-Live the 1950s in Marin County

New, 1 comment

Up in San Rafael, this sweet little Mid-Century 2-bed, 1-bath house came on the market last week, asking $700,000. It's a classic post-and-beam, vaguely octagonal in plan with a big stone fireplace anchoring one end of the living area, and looks to be in what we'd call "vintage but refreshed" condition. The vibe is probably more "blacklisted screenwriter" than Mad Men. Nice views up to Mt. Tam, plus there's a "possibly unwarranted" post-and-beam studio/guest house structure with a bath across the parking area. Unlike other parts of San Rafael, this neighborhood was never covered by tract houses and is still a cross-section of postwar suburbia, from modest, progressive houses like this one all the way up to new, vaguely-Tuscan mansions. Check it out for yourself— the house will be open on Sunday, June 24 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM.
