Pelicans Rejoice

Back in 2009, a brew of both human and equipment failures caused an oil spill in the bay, fouling six miles of wetlands and shoreline from Oakland Airport to Alameda Point, killing birds and untold quantities of aquatic life. An investigation followed and predictably, so did a suit by Alameda and San Francisco Counties for damages related to the cleanup. The ship's owners settled for $2M on Wednesday.
