Play Ball

In November of 2010 the $250,000 bocce ball courts in Justin Herman Plaza opened for public use. The courts, however, have only been usable for a total of two months since then, mostly because of bad weather and the Occupy movement setting up camp there. The Rec and Park Department recently spent an additional $50,000 for plaza and court restorations. Now the courts are ready to be used, and the local bocce ball community is thrilled. "I'm going there as much as I can now," said current U.S. bocce champion Benji Tosi. [SF Examiner/photo via Shutterstock]
