Free this afternoon? Then partake in the first of four events commemorating the 1906 Great Earthquake and Fire. Our friends at the Appeal tell us that at 3PM, there will be a three-block parade that includes the George Washington High School Marching Band leading the procession, as well as the SFPD Mounted Patrol, three antique fire engines, and four vintage Rolls Royce's and Bentleys. The parade starts at The Westin St. Francis Landmark Lobby and finishes at John's Grill on Ellis Street. Also in attendance will be three of the four remaining survivors of the 1906 earthquake. The 7.5 magnitude quake and fires leveled 490 city blocks, left 250,000 homeless, and killed thousands of people. Can't make it out to this afternoon's event? There's three more scheduled for tomorrow, so check the Appeal for the what, where, when and cost.
