No More Grady Ranch

New, 6 comments

Remember how George Lucas wanted to build a new studio on his Grady Ranch property in Marin? Yeah, well, nevermind, because Lucasfilms has pulled the project. In an epic letter penned to the Marin Independent Journal, the company states, "The level of bitterness and anger expressed by the homeowners in Lucas Valley has convinced us that, even if we were to spend more time and acquire the necessary approvals, we would not be able to maintain a constructive relationship with our neighbors." While the NIMBY neighbors see the withdrawal as a win, Marin County officials and business interests are devastated over the loss of millions in revenue and hundreds of jobs. Lucasfilms ended their letter stating, "We plan to sell the Grady property expecting that the land will revert back to its original use for residential housing." So instead of preserving over 95% of the total acreage, as was proposed by the project, the land will likely be subdivided for housing. Way to go NIMBYs. [Curbed Inbox/Marin Independent Journal]
