The Civic Center Plaza is about to be the temporary home of "Breathing Flower," a 24-foot tall motorized red lotus flower by Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa. This is the same spot where the six-armed Buddha and the illuminated dragon boat resided during their time in San Francisco. The lotus sculpture is fit to be installed on May 18 and stay until September. The SF Examiner reports that the installation will coincide with the Asian Art Museum's "Phanton of Asia," the institution's first large-scale exhibition of contemporary art. "The installation creates a link between the modern world and one of the most important cosmological symbols in Asia," the museum said in a statement. [SF Examiner/photo via SF Gov]
