11-0 For A-Cup Vote

"We've had to rethink and put together ... a more straightforward proposition." The BOS voted unanimously to ratify the latest plan for the America's Cup Race. And with that, the America's Cup Event Authority abandons its year-long flirtation with the real estate business to concentrate on revolutionizing the sport of sailing. That's the real genius at work here- dragging the sport out of the days of wooden boats and canvas sails and into the 21st Century- and leaving mundane pier repair issues and cruise terminals to the municipalities and their bureaucracies. Even scaled back, the 2013 Cup Race will be historic for sailing, but we're just happy that 200,000 people won't be showing up with water bottles and needing porta-potties in 2013. [SF Gate]
